Board of Directors
David has been recovering from being nutmegged three times in a game by Morgan for the last four years. As part of his recovery, his therapist suggested that being President of BIFC might help him regain his sense of dignity and confidence. So far it isn't working so well but he does enjoy playing for the Team Pink! David is so proud that our little club created just a decade ago by four amigos in a pub has changed so many lives in our community.
Morgan has played, coached and been working in soccer for the last 30 years. He is a two-time Adult coed league champion and lists his proudest soccer moment as when he nutmegged BIFC president David Verlee three times in a row during a game. We are grateful to Morgan for submitting his passport photo for our general entertainment.
Deidre is going for the all-around prize. This year she coached Development, took a new team to League, ran indoor soccer, played Adult Co-ed, took on a Team Captain role and then ran for the Board. We're somewhat concerned that she needs a new hobby, but we can't live without her so we won't mention it.
Deb is one of the founders of the U7 Development program and she has the scars on her ankles to prove it. She is our talented in-house photographer and ad department and has not been back to adult co-ed since her hand got turned inside out. Morgan was not involved.
Julian, in addition to being an archive all of all things soccer, is the coach of the 18-strong girls team. He is wearing his cleats at the breakfast table, talking in two languages about going to soccer after he plays some soccer. He is also our numbers guru and gives us input on club growth strategy.
Adult Co-ed Coordinator
Phil Carlington is a football aficionado. For footy he has the passion of Valentino, the brain of Pele and the skills of Stan Laurel. He has been with the club since it's inception as a player, coach, Kit Manager, Director and Co Ed coordinator. He is a stalwart fan of Sunderland AFC. It's his life! He has now passed this passion to his daughter, Emily - who will also have to endure a life time of disappointments, false hope and general miserableness.
Coach Jill has been on the field coaxing our smallest players from Development to League for the last 2 years. New to the Board in 2016, she can usually be spotted running around with her 3 boys on a pitch somewhere. When not standing in the pouring rain for BIFC with a big smile on her face, she is dreaming of the next coaching clinic.
Deshai is somewhere quietly mumbling under her breath about why the Adult Co-ed League can never find their shirts. If she is not driving a kid to soccer or filling orders at the BIFC Store, she is probably staring into space wondering where the good times have gone. It is important to keep her identity hidden so no one else asks her for soccer clothes while she's shopping at the General Store.
Dominic is the newest islander on our Board, and the newest Board Member. This may, or may not be a picture of him.
Becca our club first aid champ and actual real live nurse, is probably helping a patient and simultaneously checking her TeamSnap to see if she is supposed to be at soccer or at baseball. She manages multiple teams for her two active lads and still finds time to sit on the Board. Eventually she will get tired and have to stop and we'll be able to snap a picture.
Dayna starts this September!
Burns Jennings is a founder, coach, past VP & Pres of BIFC. He co-coaches the Bowen Island Soccer Academy and is BIFC's Technical Director / Coach Development Coordinator. He has just completed the first part of his Learning Facilitator course from BC Soccer so he can teach and certify coaches in-house. He also works as the Mens Youth Equipment Manager for the Canadian Soccer Association.
