2026 World Cup in numbers

1930

The first ever World Cup was held in Uruguay in 1930. The hosts went on to win the Tournament. This year will be the 23rd to have taken place.

Only 8 nations have won the World Cup since it kicked off in 1930. Uruguay (2), Italy (4), Germany (4), Brazil (5), England (1), Argentina (3), France (2) & Spain (1).

This will be the biggest World Cup ever, with 48 teams taking part in the Tournament playing games across 16 venues in Canada, Mexico & USA, with our very own BC Place hosting 7 games.
