Overview:
In 2023 a redesign of the Bowen Island FC crest was authorised by the BIFC Board and was awarded to Andre Bussanich. This in turn went on to form the basis of our 2024 Rebrand which was initiated by Andy Gillooley as part of a new role as the club's Creative Director. We wanted to ensure that we were more than just a logo, and that the change was more meaningfully incorporated into everything that we do, so we worked with Jade Pover at BRNDMRK, a Bowen Island based brand and marketing agency who helped bring the club to life from a visual point of view.
Simultaneously we underwent a Strategic Planning process, which we started in the Fall of 2022. This helped lock down the longterm goals we have for the club, and the importance of ensuring that community is at the heart of everything that we do. We collaborated with members of the Bowen Island Soccer Community to outline a five-year plan for the Club. The outcome of which was a mission To positively influence our community through a healthy, safe, and fun environment, promoting a life-long love of soccer for all.Â
By bringing together the brand review and strategic plan we were able to deliver a series of guidelines that will help us drive the club forward. You can find all this on our website, and below is a journey through some of the key elements and how we got there.
Our Club Crest:
This was designed as a responsive system. The main crest shape features 3 arrows and precise angles which manifest to other co-branded items. The black mountain graphic represents our island home, and the BIFC red speaks to the strength of our community.
Our more simplistic and modernized logo allows for easier brand recognition and is more flexible across use online, in print and on kits/merch
The 2024 logo has already become a fan favourite.
Our Club Vision:
At Bowen Island FC, everyone is welcome. We strive to create an inclusive environment where individuals of all ages and skill levels feel comfortable joining our club, fostering a healthier, inspired, and closer community.
Â
Whether it's a 4-year-old taking their first kicks in our Mini House Program, a newcomer exploring social opportunities at our Women’s Soccer Nights, or a seasoned player returning to the game in our Masters Program after years away, we offer programs tailored for everyone.
Â
Through our commitment to fun, friendliness, and inclusivity, we build a stronger club for all, solidifying our role as a vital part of the Bowen Island Community.
We believe that there should be a place in our club for absolutely everybody.
Our Typography:
We utilize two modern, strong and clear fonts that compliment our brand and importantly are accessible on Google Fonts, Wix, Adobe, making them flexible enough for all our needs.
Rubik and Avenir fonts have been selected to give us consistency and flexibility across everything that we do.
Our Colours:
We have a simple but functional colour palette based around BIFC Red, Black and White and a series of supplementary colours that work well with our primary set.
A simple set of complimentary colours gives us lots to work with in maintaining a clear visual style.
In Motion:
We worked with motion graphics designer mrheydu (Jesus Delgado) who helped us turn all of the brand elements that we created into a motion toolkit that could be across all of our video assets on web and social media.
A full motion toolkit allows us to add a more premium finish to all our content.
Photography:
We've also been incredibly lucky to work with the extremely talented local photographer Jeff White. He has helped raise the bar for us in terms of our photographs and has done a great job of documenting what it is like to be a part of an amazing community club that is lucky enough to be based in one of the most beautiful parts of the world.
Follow our social media channels for more of Jeff's amazing work. He does a great job of combining the island's natural beauty with the fun and excitement of team sport.
Website:
We have incorporated all of our new brand elements into our website and in the process simplified it dramatically, making it much easier to find basic information about the club and to sign up for our programs. We've also put a lot of focus into ensuring that it is more accessible for mobile devices, this is incredibly important to us as we know that almost 75% of our traffic comes from cell phones.
This is the first phase of our web re-design and we will continue to improve usability and the overall experience as we move into 2025.
Improving site navigation and mobile accessibility has been a key priority for us this year.
The Future:
The work done this year puts us in an incredibly strong position to ensure the longevity of Bowen Island Football Club from a brand perspective. We have a very versatile and adaptable starting point that will allow us to step up our efforts on social media, create more branded video content, and produce exciting new merchandise and apparel designs that will allow our many players and supporters to feel more closely connected to the club than ever before.
You can read more at our website in our Brand Guidelines, and we'll continue to share regular updates as we go.
Thanks for joining us on this journey!
